Welcome!

Welcome to the Frog Hollow Farm blog! I've been blogging since January 2010 and have switched from Blogger to Word Press, but I'm back to Blogger because, for me, it's easier to use. My husband and I live on a little farm in Northwest New Jersey. We have some chickens and a very large vegetable garden with asparagus and raspberries, and rows and rows of sunflowers, snapdragons and zinnias. Traveling, entertaining, gardening, spending time with family, studying Italian, blogging and reading keep us busy and happy. With all of this going on, moving towards a simpler life seems almost impossible but it's definitely a daily goal.

I Skip Town Every Other Thursday

Do you remember the sitcom Will & Grace, and crazy Karen?  There was one episode when Karen is walking down her very large staircase in her very posh Manhattan apartment and starts shouting "I can see you!  I can see you!" - and you see her cleaning woman scurry away through a door to the left.
Well, I'm not that bad but I do hate being in my house when my cleaning lady is working.  I feel funny just hanging around when she's working her tail off, which she does, so, I skip town every other Thursday when she's in our home.  I usually plan different escapades during that time, pedicures, manicures, a visit to the hair salon for a cut or color, facial, grocery shopping or just shopping.  That sounds pretty self-absorbed, doesn't it?  This Thursday I think I'll try to find some of the basic spring trends I saw this past weekend. They included the following:

  • Anything in a spicy color, like saffron or paprika (supposed to be good colors for everyone)

  • A yellow or butter colored handbag

  • a sequined top (goes with everything)

  • an easy jacket, like a boyfriend jacket (needs to be looser, but fit well in the shoulders)

  • Printed jersey dress
By the way, I never did get to match my dishes to my tablecloths, but I did get to go through my tablecloths and discard some with stains or age  and I organized them according to which room I would use them in.  I also separated the many antique tablecloths and I will need to decide which ones I will keep and which I will try to sell at a local antique store.

And, I didn't buy new dishes to match my tablecloths, but I did just buy two new April Cornel tablecloths at Marshalls and Home Goods - they were a really good price and I just couldn't pass them up.  Ciao Bella!

  1. Don't be too quick to discard tablecloths. You never know what they may go with. I sort my tablecloths by color. Even if it's not the perfect size, you can usually make it work - layering or folding.

And, there are many April Cornell linens in my collection too!

  2. I also have tableclothes that I am convinced I'll use one day -- and I try to take them out of the package but.....Oh well. Great posts.

  3. Thanks for commenting on my blog. I had to comment on your cleaning lady - I too try to be out when mine comes (once a month) because she is a talker! If I don't manage to leave before she arrives, it's just not that easy to escape!
