This little ceramic 'Whistle For Milk' mug has been around for a long time, probably for at least 50 years! It's not Limoges or anything expensive, but nevertheless is just so sweet and full of memories. My brother, sister and I each received one of these from a visiting friend of my mother's, many years ago when we lived in a little split level house on a corner in south Jersey. Each of the mugs held a package of some sort of candy, and after we ate the candy my mother saved the mugs and placed them with her good china and crystal in her china cabinet for all to see.
The little bird perched on the handle has a tail that's a whistle, and it actually works when you blow into it, thereby, Whistle for Milk!
These little mugs were always the stars of the china cabinet for me, but mom wouldn't let us use them. I think I remember one time when mom let me have some milk in one of the mugs, but it was quickly returned to the safety of the cabinet. Anyway, somehow I got a hold of that little mug and began looking for others on eBay - and I have collected a few more...

How neat these are! I've never seen anything like them - as a kid, you must have loved that whistle. I'm glad you were able to find more on ebay! That's how my whole egg cup collection started - with one that was given to me as a child. Years later, I started to buy them on ebay and there you go!

How clever that they actually do whistle. On the other hand, should my toddler ever set eyes (and lips) on these it would be the end of me.
