Welcome!

Welcome to the Frog Hollow Farm blog! I've been blogging since January 2010 and have switched from Blogger to Word Press, but I'm back to Blogger because, for me, it's easier to use. My husband and I live on a little farm in Northwest New Jersey. We have some chickens and a very large vegetable garden with asparagus and raspberries, and rows and rows of sunflowers, snapdragons and zinnias. Traveling, entertaining, gardening, spending time with family, studying Italian, blogging and reading keep us busy and happy. With all of this going on, moving towards a simpler life seems almost impossible but it's definitely a daily goal.

Caribbean here we come!

My husband and I are flying to the Caribbean for a week with friends. This is the third year that this particular group of friends have headed to Mexico for a winter break, and the second year we have been able to join them. We stay at one of the couple's time-shares right on the water - it's a beautiful location on a wide, sandy beach.
I love being able to walk on the beach with my husband, sipping an icy margarita and soaking in the sun and beautiful azure water. Packing is always a challenge for me, especially packing for 85 degree weather in the middle of the winter. There is a service called Simplement Chic that has helped me organize my wardrobe in the past, and some of the organizational templates have helped me with my travel packing. My approach is to take a key piece of clothing, such as a pair of white capris, and match them up with several tops, shoes, wrap and jewelry. I try everything on and switch things around until they work, trying on different separates beforehand so that I am absolutely sure that things fit, don't need any repairs, are comfortable and look good - with a complete outfit that includes the jewelry, shoes and other accessories. This list is actually typed up and I reference it when I pack, as well as during the trip so I always know what outfits I have to wear. I don't know about you, but I hate angsting over what to wear, and this system works for me. Most of this trip calls for colorful, casual clothing that includes white and black capris; sleeveless and three-quarter sleeve tops in aquas, corals, brown and black; flip flops and platform sandals; colorful silk and pashmina wraps and costume jewelry in whites, golds, aquas and purples (I don't like traveling with my good jewelry). My makeup is pretty simple, and with the help I had from the consultants at the Bobbi Brown studio I feel that I have just what I need. Once a year I go for a spray tan, because I'm fair and don't like to sit in the sun for that long. Even if I did sit for hours, I think only my face and arms would get brown - my legs always look white no matter what. My pedicure is scheduled for tomorrow, so I should be all set to go. After this escape week I'll need to get back to reality and begin thinking about things besides myself, like my garden and some other ventures that I have planned for the future. Where are your favorite travel locations? Do you have any packing tips to share?

  1. Hi, Oh how wonderful!! We were in Cabo a couple years ago and travelled off the beaten path to some wonderful towns...I have been meaning to post on it, one of these days :)
I am very good friends with Marie B. I just love her, next week we are meeting for lunch in Princeton. She has been 'featured' in a few of my posts, great lady!!
My husband has been so busy with work this year so we have been traveling closer to home but some years we are gone so much , especially when I do buying trips ects. that I actually had two separate closets done..one for Fall/ Winter clothes and the other is my Spring/Summer/Resort...they are not huge by any means but they are very organized...So if we are skiing one week or going to someplace hot the next month it is very easy for me to pack.
I always overpack and no matter how hard I try I can't help it. But I love Style and Fashion so its fun. I am planning to return to FYI when I can fit it in for some more style and design classes.
I hope your trip is wonderful.
    xoxo

  3. Hi Bunny, I tried editing my first comment because when I reread it I sounded like I was going all over the place. But, I found out I can't go back into a comment to edit it - it needs to be totally deleted. I just wanted to tell you how excited I was to have someone other than my two extremely wonderful, successful children (did you hear that Frank and Kate?)comment on my post. Marie has been such a wonderful resource and guide for me - she is approachable and so friendly - I felt comfortable with her from the first time I met her - she was not intimidating or judgemental, just honest. I can understand why you are good friends with her. Please tell her I said hello when you see her for lunch. I love seeing your photos of fashion and accessories on your blog - you are definitely a girl's-girl! Your fashion sense is wonderful - and you have a great eye in all that you do in your home as well. My fashion sense is classic, usually solids, in the Spring palette - I love color and also navy and charcoal gray. Well, we're heading off to Mexico tomorrow - I'll post some photos and tell all about it when I return. Ciao!
